What is Your Purpose in Life?
“The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you find out why.” ~ Mark Twain
As Coach, I work with a lot of accomplished professionals that find themselves stuck and uninspired. They feel they are not making a difference by doing what they do. They are uninterested by their chosen field of work. Some even go as far as to loathe their job or business as they feel there is no alignment with their own values.
So, let me ask you, what drives you to do what you do? What are your intentions when you choose to do what you do? These questions are not meant to judge or shame, they are not about right or wrong and they are certainly not about telling you how to should live your life. These are more about self-reflection and awareness.
I find that everyone has his or her “reason why”, e.g. If you are a doctor, why did you become one? Perhaps because that is what your parents expected you to do? Maybe the weight that comes with the “status” of being a doctor appealed to you? It could have been the undeniable inclination to heal others, a vocation so powerful that ignoring it would be like killing your own soul. Whatever the reason, it was your reason and should be respected.
Would you, however, say that you are true and loyal to yourself or would you betray, sacrifice and sabotage your own values for a little bit of status and/or money? I find that when you are not fulfilled or happy in your work, you do not take the time to sit down and reflect honestly and openly with yourself about what matters to you most.
When you ignore your true passion, over time you tend to feel despondent, dispassionate and depressed, regardless of much money you make. Let’s be honest, how many people you actually know that can sincerely say they are living a fulfilling life?
It is all in the choices we make in life. They are either inspired by something deep within or influenced by outside forces. It is simple really, you can either bet in your favour or against yourself. Nevertheless, having said all that, end of the day, there’s no right or wrong really… only errors, success, opportunities and lessons. It is your path and yours alone, no one can walk it for you.
Thanks for reading! And this is just my opinion.
I see you!
